A home in foreclosure can sometimes be refinanced if there is enough equity in the home, and you could begin making payments over again. Who knows, with a refinance you may even have lower payments! Make contact with the people who have begun the foreclosure, usually the lender’s attorneys. Once you are facing foreclosure the lender usually won’t talk to you directly any more…they will refer you to their attorney’s office.
One of the first things many people do when they become behind is avoid the constant phone calls. To save your home from foreclosure, you must to stay in contact with your lender as long as they will work with you.
You need to let your lender know what is happening in your life, and any changes that may allow you to begin making your payments again. Most lenders do not want the home back, so they will work with you as much as they can to help you keep your home.
If you got behind on your mortgage payments because you lost your job or had a temporary lay off or dealt with some health problems, but now you’re back at work, you might not be able to catch up on your back payments. See if your lenders will take the back payments and add them to the end of your loan.
You see, lenders can be creative if they so choose. They really don’t want to own your home because it costs them money. So don’t give up…check out all your options! You may want to investigate whether a bill consolidation program could lower your other monthly costs in order to make your mortgage payment.
If you aren’t comfortable talking directly to your lender, or your home has been scheduled for auction at the county courthouse, you can use the services of a loss mitigation company such as Freedom Foreclosure Prevention Services (www.freedomforeclosure.com/savingfamilyhomes). Just make sure that the loss mitigator you use has a successful track record and is a reputable company.
So remember, a home in foreclosure isn’t the end of the world, but it could be an eye opener if you haven’t been handling your money wisely. You might want to get some counsel on how to better manage your finances and consolidate your other bills. Doing this could keep you from facing foreclosure again in the future.
